Year 1 - GH / LS
Hello and welcome, 1GH / LS is one of two classes in Year 1. Taught by Mr Harrison and Mrs Smith, and supported by Mrs Morgan, we are currently a class of 24 smiley and imaginative little 5 and 6 year olds.
Transitioning from YR to Y1 can be difficult so we seek guidance in our School Values - kindness, honesty, working hard and a
love of learning - for a smooth journey.
Our Learning Commitments for Summer term are:
~ In reading, sound and blend, and find and retrieve and infer information from the text.
~ In writing, to use and in a sentence with correct punctuation.
~ In maths, to know the 2's, 5's and 10 times tables.
Our Summer term topic is 'Happily Ever After' we will be learning about fairy tale stories, ,knights, Kings and Queens. We will be finding out what makes a good castle and building our own using junk modelling.
We will also be learning about plants and trees that are in our local area.
In Spring term we were learning about Super Heroes. We learnt about 'real life heroes' such as Rosa Parks, Florence Nightingale and Neil Armstrong, and thought about the qualities of a super hero we designed and created our own heroes.
We also learnt about 'pop art' and studied the work and techniques of Roy Lichenstein and used him as an influence to create our own comic book art.
To begin the year, our topic was an adventure back to the land of the Dinosaurs. We had created mixed media works of art; described the 'enormous and ferocious beasts'; sculpted our own dinosaur fossils and role-played a volcanic eruption. Below you can see just what we produced.
