We want every child with an allergy to be safe, included and able to take part in school life. Families and staff work together to make that happen.

Our allergy safety policy and procedures set out how we identify needs, plan support, manage food and activities and respond to a reaction.
How we keep children safe
We put the child's needs at the centre of the plan.
- Know: collect and share essential allergy information with the adults who need it.
- Plan: agree an individual healthcare plan when school arrangements are needed, with a clinical action plan where relevant.
- Prevent: check food, labels, school meals, trips, clubs and celebrations.
- Prepare: train staff and keep emergency medication accessible
If a reaction happens
Staff follow the child's plan and the school's emergency procedure.
- Stay with the child and call for help.
- Give adrenaline promptly if anaphylaxis is suspected.
- Call 999 and say “anaphylaxis”.
- Monitor, inform parents and hand over to the ambulance team.
We practise our response each term and review incidents so we can constantly improve.
What families can do?
Accurate information helps us act safely and include your child.

- Tell us directly: report new allergies, reactions, medication or plan changes to the office promptly.
- School meals: if your child needs a special menu, complete HCL's application and let us know.
