Great Teaching at Moss Bury

Our Teacher Toolkits

At Moss Bury, we believe that great teaching does not happen by chance. Our teacher toolkits are carefully designed, step-by-step guides that set out what high-quality teaching looks like in our school and how it is enacted consistently in every classroom. Rooted in evidence-based research, including Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, the toolkits reflect an evidence-informed understanding of effective teaching and how pupils learn. They focus on clear explanations, effective checking for understanding, retrieval of key knowledge and carefully sequenced learning, ensuring that all of the essential elements of good teaching are present in every lesson.

The toolkits have been implemented deliberately and over time, supported by a strong backbone of professional development. This has allowed staff to develop a shared understanding of our approach to teaching and assessment, building confidence and expertise while avoiding unnecessary workload. The toolkits are accompanied by a supporting slide deck, allowing teachers to focus their time on refining their pedagogy and improving outcomes for pupils.

Together, the toolkits provide consistency of approach for all children. This ensures that pupils receive a fair and equitable experience of teaching and learning, and that our curriculum is delivered in the most effective way. For leaders, the toolkits offer a clear framework for monitoring and supporting high-quality teaching across the school, ensuring that strong practice is embedded, sustained and continually improved. As a result, good teaching is not isolated to individual classrooms, but is secured for every child, every day.
